What do you get for your monthly levies?
Providence Rest Home is a not for profit organization with the monthly levies the only income to fund the expenses to operate, maintain and make improvements. There are no external funding or subsidies from the government or other third party. The home may receive donations from friends or individuals from time time. There are no directors’ fees, agent fees or dividends paid to any person or organization.
Providence Rest Home has an inclusive pricing policy. This means that your monthly levy covers all the expenses required to live in a safe, loving and caring environment:
- Your room or apartment in an environment that you can truly say is home from home.
- Our staff who’s primary focus is to ensure you are safe, loved and cared for every minute of your stay with Providence.
- A Professional Nurse (Sister) is on duty for 12 hours during the day (6h00 to 18h00) and on call if required at night. A Staff Nurse is on duty for 12 hours (18h00 to 6h00) during the night. This includes weekends and public holidays. All care is under the direct supervision of a professional nurse.
- Your room or apartment is cleaned daily and high dusting is done once a week.
- Your bed is made daily.
- Laundry of residents clothing and linen is done weekly by an off-site laundry.
- Assisting with daily hygiene of resident and preparing them for the day.
- You are served 3 nutritious meals a day made on the premises by our resident cook.
- BREAKFAST: Fruit, Porridge/Cereal, cooked breakfast, toast, butter and jam, tea/coffee.
- LUNCH: Main meal, meat/fish, potato/rice and vegetables/salad. Pudding every day. Always a roast on Sunday. Tea/Coffee
- SUPPER: Soup, Light supper e.g. sausage roll, quiche, samosa, sandwich sometimes with salad. Fresh Fruit, tea/coffee.
- MORNING TEA tea/coffee/juice and a biscuit
- AFTERNOON TEA tea/coffee/juice and a baked item.
- If a resident has visitors, they are always given tea with the resident, even out of tea times.
- Visitors are also welcome to join residents for lunch if arranged beforehand. A small fee will be charged to recoup cost.
- A resident may request tea or coffee any time of the day or night.
- Fruit juice is served at 11h00 on very warm days.
- Residents who require total care. This includes bed baths, pressure care, feeding of resident, 2 hourly positioning, exercises. (Providence Rest Home prides ourselves that we have had no residents with bed soars since our inception)
- Monitoring of medications, ensuring the residents get their medications at the correct times and are observed that they are taking them. Reordering of medications as required. Observing residents for any side effects from their medication. This is done by the Matron, Senior Sister, night nurses and relief sisters or nurses. At no stage are carers responsible for administering medication.
- Residents in the rooms are not allowed to keep their alcoholic beverages. Should the resident be used to having drinks at special times e.g. a sundowner, lunchtime, supper time, these are catered for. The residents supply their own drinks which are kept safe by the matron and served on request.
- Residents in the apartments are allowed to keep alcoholic beverages and enjoy them at special times. However, this privilege will be revoked if the resident receives medical treatment or medication which may be adversely affected by the use of alcohol, or when a resident’s state of mind doesn’t allow the responsible enjoyment of alcohol.

- Monthly blood pressure and weight are measured on all residents to ensure there are no changes. Should a resident require more frequent monitoring this is catered for. At no stage are carers responsible for measuring blood pressure.
- Dressings are done for the residents should they require it by senior staff.
- If the resident is not feeling well the professional nurse will do a full assessment of the resident, including observations and a urine test if required. Depending on the assessment the matron and senior sister will decide if the resident needs medical care or not.
- Families are kept informed of any changes in the resident’s health and or emotional wellbeing. This is done with voice calls or family WhatsApp groups.
- When families are unable to assist with residents having to go to a doctor’s appointment or something similar, the senior staff will assist with arrangements for transport.
- Weekly exercises are done by a physiotherapist.
- Crafts and games are organized on some days.
- TV-DSTV is provided in the lounge in the main house.
- DSTV points are available in all the rooms. The residents must bring their own decoders and TV sets. Providence Rest Home can assist with cheaper DSTV packages. The monthly subscription is paid by the resident.
- Free Library.
- There is a beautiful garden to walk around with benches to sit and admire the garden or read a book.
- We have a swimming pool for the residents to use.
- Weekly devotional time on a Sunday morning.
- Special days are celebrated Valentines days, Heritage day, Birthdays etc.
- A safe is provided for the safe keeping of valuables.
- Cameras are installed in all the rooms and apartments as well as outside the building to assist with the monitoring of residents. Each camera is recorded 24 hours a day and footage stored for 7 days rolling period. This is done for the safety of residents and the protection of staff.
- All residents are given an emergency buzzer they can contact staff for help when required.
- Electricity and Water use is paid for in the levies
- Providence Rest Home has insurance for the building and items belong to Providence Rest Home. There is limited cover for residents belonging.
- There is limited wifi and internet access.
What is excluded from your monthly levies? Items that will incur EXTRA CHARGES
- DSTV, Netflix, etc. subscriptions are paid by the resident
- Alcoholic beverages and other refreshments and snacks are paid by the resident
- Off-site medical care / treatment by medical professionals
- Prescribed medicines
- A wound care specialist can be arranged at the resident’s cost.
- Providence Rest Home purchases and stocks some basic medical items and Residents will be charged for these stock items as they use them. Some of the stock items are: includes nappies or pull ups, dressings, some common medications e.g., anti-diarrhoeal, anti-emetic, Panado tablets, etc.
- When urine tests are done Residents only pay for the dipstick.
- Nails done by a professional once a month.
- Hair done by a hairdresser once a week.
- Contribute to an entertainment fund that pays for entertainers (professionals) to come and entertain the residents at Providence Rest Home.
- On outings residents pay for their own refreshments. Transport is free and arranged by Providence Rest Home
- Visitors joining residents for lunch pay a very reasonable fee for lunch.
- Occasionally we have Bingo Sessions for fund raising.
